Summer’s Bounty

Posted on Posted in Inspiration

Happy Labor Day!  Now, I know most people really like summer.  They get to go to the beach, get a tan, wear shorts, etc., etc., etc.  But I really dislike summer.  I mean, taking a vacation is always nice, but I’d rather walk through an arboretum on a chilly fall day or cuddle up with a book during a snow storm.  Ever since I was a kid, I hated being hot and I hated the sun shining in my eyes.  And this summer, the weather has been particularly unbearable.  I think the weather here in Jersey has averaged about 90 degrees every day for the past 3 months, and I’m going crazy.  BUT there is one good thing about summer, particularly late summer: Farmer’s Markets!  I think you already knew that though.  Anyway, this whole thing was a lead up to this wonderful lunch I had this weekend:

I got 3 pounds of heirloom tomatoes and a bunch of basil for $7!  So naturally, I also had to get some locally made mozzarella and make a caprese salad.  All it needed was a few flakes of Maldon Sea Salt.  I also bought a loaf of really nice bread to have with the fancy butter I bought for brunch last week and some prosciutto, because, well, prosciutto.  And it was lovely.  Now Fall can come, any day now…

I got a teeny tiny cheesecake for dessert too :)
