Sparkly Whiskey Sour

Posted on Posted in Inspiration, Recipes

Here’s another home-bar creation!  This time, I was looking at the bottle of Maker’s Mark that I bought over a year ago, wondering in what manner I would ever use it.  Then, it hit me- I always keep lemons and limes in my fridge, so why not make a Whiskey Sour?

Whiskey sour | foodsciencenerd.comNow, a whiskey sour is kind of a math equation or something (but the fun kind).  It is comprised of:

  • 2 parts whiskey/bourbon
  • 1 part lemon and/or lime juice
  • 3/4 part simple syrup, which itself is:
    • 1 part water
    • 1 part sugar
    • Boil to dissolve sugar and let cool
  • 2 dashes bitters, optional

Also, I really love taking pictures on a clean kitchen counter now that I’ve moved my wine rack to the bar that I made!

OR 3/4 part Real Maple Syrup which makes this easier and a million times better!!!!!

Put all the ingredients in a shaker (bonus points if it’s an adorable baby shaker) with plenty of ice and shake vigorously for about 20 seconds.  Pour into a martini glass and garnish with citrus, or alternatively, a low-ball glass with ice (but we all know that’s not as fun).

Now, if you’re anything like me, you spilled half the drink on the counter when the cap popped off of the shaker.  The drink at this point looks very sad because only a third of the glass has liquid in it.  I have a solution- add about 2-3 ounces of club soda.  This drink is no longer a traditional whiskey sour, but it is all sparkly and fun!  It also will take longer to drink, which is always a good thing.
