Grapefruit Ginger Sparkler: Virgin (or not) Home Happy Hour

Posted on Posted in Recipes

I recently discovered ginger beer.  It is nonalcoholic (well, it’s fermented, but it has less alcohol than yeast-risen bread) and reminiscent of ginger ale, but stronger and spicier, and, unfortunately, harder to find.  And it’s the base for may other drinks like the Moscow Mule, but I wanted to create a ginger grapefruit drink instead.  I decided to go mocktail on this one, but I won’t tell if you add some kind of liquor- really, any liquor would work in this.  If you don’t like ginger, then replace the ginger beer with prosecco.

Thanks to my cousin for the awesome shaker and cocktail glasses!

To make this grapefruit ginger sparkler, all you need is:

  • A large grapefruit
  • 1/4 basil leaves
  • 1 can ginger beer (I used diet so I could drink the rest)
  • Ice

Juice the grapefruit and add the juice with the basil leaves to a shaker and muddle to squash up the the basil.  Add ice and shake for 30 seconds to chill the juice, then strain into a cocktail glass.  Top with ginger beer and a leaf of basil for extra specialness.  Enjoy your guilt-free treat!
